In winning, he lost

RESULT VS PROCESS (HOW YOU MIGHT FAIL EVEN AFTER WINNING)

WHY THE MEANS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE END

 “Without honor, victory is meaningless”

Most at times where we are so focused on the results, we allow the process to suffer.

It is true that results matter a lot. Many people are so focused on getting the results even to the extent that the methods mean so little to them.

You might finally achieve the result but what actually trail the wake of your path? In asset management, there is a particular term called post asset liabilities. Post asset liabilities are debts paid even after one does not own the asset. Did you achieve the result but still pay in terms of failed relationships?

A lot of people, in the process of making ends meet for their loved ones, have destroyed their relationships!

In modern sales articles I have studied so far, the salesmen are usually advised not to use the cold call method in trying to make 1000 sales (which in the end one or two or even none will push through). They are rather tasked to make just one sale and build relationships from it.

Taking great consideration on the means and not the end is a very sustainable way of living and it brews happier and effective relationships.

There are many ways to kill a rat but which method is more effective in terms of sustainability especially sustainable relationships?

Many leaders fail in this case. Yes, there is urgent need to push out the products, satisfy our clients, and close out projects as early as possible. Yet do you successfully get a great product into the market and leave your followers nursing wounds?

In winning, he lost
In winning, he lost

“Results can come from different means but which means is most sustainable? That is what you should choose for happiness”…Shimonkepha

A particular event occurred over the social media, Twitter. I followed up someone and she sent me a message to subscribe to her YouTube channel. Checking up her channel, the content was good and I did subscribe and replied the message stating that I have done as requested. She replied immediately thanking me. I tried to chat up with her again but the line went dead. It really dawned on me that she wants the subscription and nothing else. All she cared was the result of getting highest number of subscribers and never to build relationships with them

This scenario plays itself out in almost every facets of life especially in the workplace

Finally, this calls for us to redefine what success means to us:

  • A great product as against wounds, bitterness and feeling of being used and dumped by our team
  • Great achievement of our goals as against sacrifice of our relationships.

Let us have a sustainable mindset always for us to be happier in life. Remember that having the right and excellent means will lead you to a sustainable result and that without honor, victory is meaningless.
