I so much love the movie, Moana. You can have a preview of it on YouTube here if you have not watched it. There are six powerful lessons that will improve our lives, relationships and leadership skills from the movie.
The importance of meditation is great that ancient priests and leaders who knew created sort of mystery around it; the intention was to keep it away from the ordinary people. Self-awareness, concentration, problem solving, inner peace, control, gentleness, empathy, healing, gratitude, healthy relationships and connection with nature are some of the benefits of meditation.
Whenever I cross legs to meditate, though crossing of legs is not compulsory, what happens? Continue reading My Self Awareness/Meditation Techniques for Personal Improvement
One beautiful thing is that being in the present can heal the past and make the future clearer!
There is nothing more powerful than being in the present, being in now. Most times, we cannot help but either stay put in the past or roam in the future. We believe that experience matters a lot but we, at times, tend to get stuck while going over past experiences, especially the negative ones.
Why We Get Stuck in the Past or the Future
The movie, Hacksaw Ridge, was a show of the many facts I have been learning, so many facts that we can use to hack through life to become great and achieve excellence. I would love to share them with you.
Believe in something and be willing to stake your life for it in front or behind anybody and anywhere (you’ll end up getting admiration and respect if you stick to the end).
There is so much wisdom lying around, if only we see them.
I came across this awesome sight of this tree. I never wanted the big guy to die as someone burnt it, yet it surprised me!

AN EFFECTIVE WAY OF MAKING RESOLUTIONS WORK FOR YOU
How much time do we have to live in?
50 years? 100? 365 days?
The truth is that we only have one day to live in. That day is TODAY, right? Yet in today (as the only day we have), we only have NOW as when we have to actually live in. We cannot live our lives beyond now.
Yes, whatever we did in the “now” that has passed has a strong influence in the present now and the things we do in the present now goes to influence our future now.
So the question is: what are you doing now? Sure I bet it is reading this article but what of the other nows? Continue reading WHY “NOW” IS THE BEST TIME
Why motivational books and talks never worked for us AND how to make them work
Have you ever felt awestruck, inspired, energized and impressed by a book or talk? What of Steve Job’s Stanford Commencement Speech? What of others that leave you mesmerized?
Envision such moments!
A lot of us have devoured countless motivational books, spent hours listening to empowering talk shows, podcasts, videos, etc. Yet most really have never ever felt any change or empowerment.
Many of us only feel the empowerment momentarily, maybe as long as three days and yet we return to our original status quo. Wonders, they say, lasts but 7 days.
Does this insinuate that all or most of these motivational speeches and books are hoax and not practical, just like a friend of mine said some time ago?
This challenge has made a lot of people get frustrated with any motivational stuff. Others go from one motivator to another hoping to get the most workable one. It is worthy to note that different motivational books tackle different issues.
There are three things we do not do and should do after listening to a motivational talk or read a motivational book Continue reading WHY WE FAIL TO GET MOTIVATED
“See a man who has mastered a weapon, he is humble; in creativity lies such steps to mastery”
Razy Hassan, a great friend from Bangladesh was once thinking about creativity vs talent. He asked me “what is the difference between both or are they the same?” “If not the same, how do you define both?” He requested that I should put up an article on the topic.
This drew me into the world of creativity and talent; made me also put up this question to different professionals and friends.
Talent is a natural, it flows so easily. Talent is like a gift handed over to us, a natural skill. Continue reading MORE CREATIVE OR MORE TALENTED?
WHY THE MEANS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE END
“Without honor, victory is meaningless”
Most at times where we are so focused on the results, we allow the process to suffer.
It is true that results matter a lot. Many people are so focused on getting the results even to the extent that the methods mean so little to them.
You might finally achieve the result but what actually trail the wake of your path? In asset management, there is a particular term called post asset liabilities. Post asset liabilities are debts paid even after one does not own the asset. Did you achieve the result but still pay in terms of failed relationships? Continue reading RESULT VS PROCESS (HOW YOU MIGHT FAIL EVEN AFTER WINNING)
A kid was proudly describing to two other kids on how his dad’s car is the best in the neighborhood. One of the two hearers cut him short and proved to him that the rich family living down the street has better car with good reasons. The kid became angry and sad at the same time.
Most times in life we hold on to certain things we have in life believing that they are the best. But from the moment a comparison is done with some other things and we find our own wanting, we (implicitly or explicitly) become sad about it. Worst of all, we start to become discontented with that which we have.
From the moment we put ourselves (or someone else does) on a scale with our colleagues, friends, or even strangers that we have not met, the feeling of inadequacy and redundancy comes in.
What if we are found better than the others? Continue reading HOW UNHEALTHY AND UNEQUAL COMPARISON IS KILLING RELATIONSHIPS
In many organizations or team, meetings are regarded as terrible sources of man-hour losses while in some others, nothing starts or ends without a meeting. To the ones regarding them as waste of time, they are right and to the ones taking meetings as very important part of activities, they are also right about it.
The rightness of the two groups depend on the groups themselves on the following: Continue reading 3 Reasons Why Meetings Are Regarded As Waste Of Time
Missing Out Adequate Information Communication.
This can make even the most simple changes look complex. The complex changes, with adequate communication, will look very simple. Thus it is necessary to plan an adequate and comprehensive communication system before initiating a change. In planning the communication system, there are certain loopholes that need to be filled:
a. What is in the change for us (personally)? Continue reading Why Great Ideas/Changes Meet Resistance and How to Overcome
I came across a beautiful photo on the internet, of a lady crying about missing her dog on her wedding day. I was really attracted by the photo and my friend Maria (who made the photo for the article) said: “ShimonK, why do we really have such affinity towards animals (our pets), can we not love the way animals do?” This spurred me to research, to ask a lot of people these questions:
- Why do you love your animal so much?
- Why does your animal love you so much?
Decision making is one of the greatest gift to man and is usually far more effective when backed up by willpower/ strong resolution.
Early in the morning is always a special time. It is the time to break the fast of the long night.
Quite a lot of people carry out different activities in the morning which do help them. A lot of activities such as planning for the day, exercising including yoga, jogging, etc., meditating and praying, reading, etc. All these are very good and I do recommend you should try some out
There is one activity that can drive our whole day. It can determine the nature of our day. Continue reading A MORNING ACTIVITY THAT CAN MAKE YOUR DAY GREAT
We are humans and every human, just like other animals, are territorial . Such territoriality in this context is the personal space and the space is surrounded by perimeters we create for ourselves.
There is nothing wrong and there is everything right if one creates a definite personal territorial boundary in life. In sciences and engineering, all successful breakthroughs come with the aid of creating boundary conditions. Well I did not find them funny while learning partial differential equations in school!. Continue reading DEFINING PERSONAL BOUNDARY: A POWERFUL STEP TO PERSONAL IMPROVEMENT
The most important ingredient in leadership and for one to become a leader is TRUST. Most organizations, teams, groups, families, etc. lack leaders but are filled with hierarchically created authorities. Having a power vested on you or a top position does not mean that you are a leader. Leading and commanding/ordering are two different parallel things even though true leaders (with authority) mix up both at certain times.
When you command, people obey out of fear of reprisals but when you lead, people obey out of being inspired. Continue reading THE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT IN LEADERSHIP (AND HOW YOU CAN USE IT TO BECOME A LEADER)
It is becoming an unspoken challenge that there is more honor in fixing things after they have damaged than preventing the damage from occurring. An ancient Chinese story recounted in Ron Moore’s “Making Common Sense Common Practice” goes like this “A lord of ancient China once asked his physician, a member of a family of healers, which of them was the most skilled in the art. The physician, whose reputation was such that his name became synonymous with medical science in China, replied, “My eldest brother sees the spirit of sickness and removes it before it takes shape, so his name does not get out of the house. My elder brother cures sickness when it is still extremely minute, so his name does not get out of the neighborhood. As for me, I puncture veins, prescribe potions, and massage skin, so from time to time my name gets out and is heard among the lords.” Continue reading WHY IS THERE MORE HONOR IN FIXING DAMAGES THAN PREVENTING THEM?
What makes a beautiful marriage? What makes it great?
I really admire Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey’s beautiful pictures (they took during their happy days), so beautiful! A thought just struck my mind with this question: who is the heat sink among the two for making these happy moments? (Let me not forget to say I admired their twin children; see the video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhCvtfJGkMI)
What is heat sink all about? Continue reading HOW TO BUILD A BEAUTIFUL MARRIAGE/RELATIONSHIP WITH A HEAT SINK
Who am I? Who are you?
A friend of mine on Facebook recently posted that all his friends should describe themselves in one word. I took up the challenge and I actually thought deeply, meditated and searched my innermost self. A lot of answers came up but I felt that they were wrong. They did not fully describe who I am.
There are two versions of who I am and there is a great difference between who I am (apparently) and who I (really) am. Continue reading WHO AM I?
If you can’t beat them, you join them (indecisiveness ends the statement here!). If you can’t join them, you leave them (an exhibition of the will!)
I believe strongly that every man and woman has willpower in him or her. Such willpower has been the major difference between man and closely related animals. Our choices, which decide who, what and where we are, largely is dependent on the willpower among others. The others include perception, imagination, intuition, memory and reasoning. Who defines us? What tells us who we are? Continue reading WHO DO PEOPLE SAY I AM?
